Our house is on fire.
Climate change is the defining agenda of our times. Dramatically altering temperatures impact nations worldwide, often above the 1.5C target climate scientists such as those at Yale Environment have set as the “scientifically justifiable” temperature increase threshold.
The fashion industry, like all industries, is a contributor to the climate crisis. The Carbon Trust reports that clothing accounts for around 3 percent of globally produced carbon emissions. According to Global Fashion Agenda’s Pulse of the Fashion Industry 2019 report, by 2030 the global apparel and footwear industry will have grown by 81% – meaning if we don’t engineer the industry to be different now, the consequences of the way we produce fashion will become even more challenging to overcome. The time for change is now.
